Local and National Government

The members of Ashgrove and Stockethill Community Council are just volunteers, but every resident in Scotland has paid elected members who represent you in local and national government.

If you are contacting one of your local councillors, MSPs or MPs make sure to give your name, address and postcode. If you do not provide your address and postcode, they will not know you are one of their constituents and may not respond to your request for help.

Aberdeen City Council is responsible for local services in our area. This includes:

• schools and nurseries

• libraries, museums and galleries

• social care

• waste and recycling

• council owned housing

• parks and leisure services

• local public transport

• voter registration

• local planning decisions and licences

If you have a concern relating to these local services  you should contact one of your local councillors. Our area covers parts of two wards in Aberdeen City Council. Residents in Ashgrove are in the Midstocket and Rosemount ward, with all other residents in the Hilton, Woodside and Stockethill ward.

Your MSPs represent you in the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood. The Scottish Parliament is responsible for a wide range of devolved matters, and it sets policies independently of the UK Parliament.

Your MSPs can support you with issues relating to:

• agriculture and fisheries

• education and training

• environment

• health and social services

• housing

• justice and policing

• local government

• transport

Residents on the south side of Cairncry Road - Hilton Street are part of the Aberdeen Central constituency.

Residents on the north side of Cairncry Road - Hilton Street are part of the Aberdeen Donside constituency.

Everyone in the United Kingdom is represented by one member of Parliament (MP)  in the House of Commons in London. You should contact your MP if you have a concern that relates to:
